Evelyn Jane Ellis' Obituary
Evelyn Jane Ellis, 87, of Chanute passed away on Monday, December 4, 2023 at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center. Evelyn was born on August 30, 1936, in Russellville, Arkansas, the daughter of William Barrett and Minnie Evelyn (Gill) Brown.
When Evelyn was young, her family moved to Buffalo and she graduated from high school in 1954. On November 26, 1955, Evelyn was united in marriage with Robert Lee Ellis at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chanute, and out of this union came five children: Lori, Bill, Jack, Patrick, and Traci. Evelyn and Robert were married for 57 years until Robert’s passing on September 10, 2013.
Evelyn was very active in her children’s lives as well as in the Chanute community. Evelyn was a member of the Daughters of Isabel, Relay for Life, she was also a Cub Scout leader, and was a basketball coach at St. Patrick’s Catholic School. Evelyn always made sure she would make it to her children’s events whether it was volleyball, football, basketball, or track, Evelyn was always there.
When Evelyn was not busy working in the community, she loved to go camping, go to garage sales, and make trips to Wichita, she also made scrap books of all of her children’s events. In her later years, Evelyn loved doing crosswords and making the occasional trips to the casino.
Evelyn was a very devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, that will always be remembered for always wanting to be there for her family. She is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.
Evelyn is survived by her children: Lori Ellis of Chanute, Bill Ellis (Debbie) of Chanute, Jack Ellis (Lori) of Omaha, NE, Patrick Ellis (Susan) of Humboldt, and Traci Rutledge of Chanute, her sisters Mary Sue Braman of Kansas City, KS, Wilma Corbett of Erie, and Betty Head of Phoenix, AZ, twelve grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents William and Minnie, her husband Robert, granddaughter Deena Janea Forsyth, and her son in law Jeff Rutledge.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at Countryside Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at 10:00 am at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:30 am following the rosary. Burial will immediately follow mass at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery. Memorials have been suggested to the Ronald McDonald House in memory of Deena Janea Forsyth and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
