Floyd McDermed, Jr.'s Obituary
Floyd McDermed, Jr. went to be with the Lord on June 29, 2016. He was born near Hepler, KS on March 18, 1924, the son of Floyd Franklin and Etta Mae (Lewis) McDermed.
Floyd grew up in the Walnut, KS area where he graduated from Walnut High School. He moved with his parents near Erie, KS in 1944 where he farmed with his parents and later started working for the Neosho Valley Creamery as a route driver for 16 years. Later, he moved to Chanute, KS and there entered the insurance business. He completed his Life Underwriters Training Council Fellow Designation in 1987. He served clients over much of Southeast Kansas for 55 years before retiring. He was a member of the SEK Life Underwriters Association and served all offices of the association. As an agent he won many awards and trips.
Floyd was a member of the Living Word Assembly Church in Chanute. He enjoyed reading, traveling, gardening and telling jokes.
Floyd married Nona Yarnell on March 18, 1947. They later divorced. He married Madge McGaugh on December 20, 1995. She preceded him in death on July 23, 2004. He was also preceded in death by five brothers: Lawrence, Virgil, Lewis, Mehrle and Raymond; and two sisters: Lola and Maude; three granddaughters and one great granddaughter.
Survivors include his daughter, Dorothy LaRue and husband John of Chanute, KS; 2 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and 3 step great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 1, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Countryside Funeral Home, Gibson Chapel in Chanute. Online condolences may be left at: www.countrysidefh.com.
