Floyd Eugene Wheeler's Obituary
Floyd Eugene Wheeler, 81 of Neodesha, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.
Floyd was born in Dodge City, Kansas to Roy Eugene and Lillie Lee (Mellies) Wheeler on June 18, 1944. Floyd graduated from Dodge City High School in 1962 and then attended Dodge City Community College before graduating from Kansas State University with a bachelor’s in animal nutrition. Floyd entered to the United States Navy in March of 1966 and proudly served his country until he was honorably discharged in March of 1970.
Floyd met Hilda Borders while he was stationed in Memphis while in the Navy. She smiled so brightly when she would tell how they met. She said, "I went to the officers club to get a man, and I got the best one!” They were married on June 29, 1969, at Holly Grove Baptist Church in Bells, Tennessee. The two were happily married for 54 years before Hilda’s passing on July 24, 2023.
In 1978, Floyd and Hilda moved to Neodesha to build their life together. Floyd started his new job as the manager of the Neodesha Co-op. He worked here for 7 years before changing careers. He then went to work at Emerson Electric for 7 years then on to Pillar Industries before retiring. Through the years Floyd built and remodeled numerous homes in and around Neodesha. Floyd was proud of his faith and a member of Neodesha CrossRoads Church, the Masons, and Fraternal Order of Eagles. Floyd enjoyed family dinners, graduations, banquets, fairs, or any event to honor or spend time with his family. He liked attending sporting events of his grandkids and especially attending the Royals. Affectionally known as “PaPa” by his 6 grandkids, he loved fishing and hunting with family and friends. He was proud of his military service in the Navy during the Vietnam conflict, stationed at several bases around the pacific realm. Some of his favorite times were playing poker with his friends.
Floyd is preceded in death by his dear wife, Hilda, granddaughter, Caytlon Ennette Wheeler, grandson, Christian Edward Wheeler, and his parents, Roy and Lillie Wheeler.
His memory will carry on with his sons; Clayton Wheeler, and Jason (Christine) Wheeler, granddaughters; Cadence Wheeler, Jordan Wheeler, and Lillie Wheeler, grandson; Cashton Wheeler, and brothers; Wesley Wheeler, and Merlin Wheeler.
A Celebration of Floyd’s life will be held at the CrossRoads Church in Neodesha on Friday, Jan 23rd at 11:00. Memorial contributions can be made in Floyd’s name to the CrossRoads Church and can be left with the funeral home.
