Frederick Eugene Kuhn's Obituary
Frederick (Fred) Eugene Kuhn, 67, of Buffalo, KS, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, entered the presence of our Lord and Savior, peacefully Wednesday, July 1, 2026, surrounded by his wife, children and loving family. Fred was born on October 18, 1958, in Sedalia, Missouri, to Harold Eugene and Barbara D. (Heavens) Kuhn.
Fred lived many places growing up as his father was in the U.S. Air Force, before settling in Buffalo, KS. He attended Altoona-Midway High School and was a member of the Class of 1977. Fred began his work career with New Way Campers in Chanute, but eventually led him to Churchill, where he specialized in maintenance and repair of oilfield equipment. In 1994, Fred began what would become more than 32 years of dedicated service with A-Lert Construction in Fredonia as a Millwright, working on and off the road over the years. Through his hard work, leadership and commitment to excellence, he ultimately earned the position of Supervisor, a role he proudly held until his passing. Fred believed in doing things the right way, working hard, and keeping his word. Those values became the foundation he passed on to his children and grandchildren.
Fred married Jamie S. Marrs on March 17, 2001, in Neodesha Kansas. Together they shared 30 years, (25 married) blending their families together of 4 children and building a home in Buffalo. Fred's love for his family was immeasurable, more than any accomplishment. As Fred traveled a lot for work, his time home was always something to look forward to. Everyone who knew Fred understood how deeply he loved his children, and how proud he was of each of them, but if you asked him about his greatest joys, it would be his grandchildren. Nothing brought a bigger smile to his face than watching them grow, celebrating their accomplishments and simply spending time together. In August of 2025, Fred welcomed one of his greatest blessings of his later years, his faithful companion Saylor. With four white paws, big brown eyes, and a love for sharing popsicles, Saylor became his most loyal sidekick. From Doctor appointments, Walmart trips, overnight hospital stays, to random drives around Buffalo and neighborly visits, Saylor was by his side, until the very end.
Even after spending long weeks working on the road, Fred rarely spent a weekend sitting still. He could often be found at the shop downtown in Buffalo tinkering on engines working on miscellaneous projects or helping someone in need. If something was broken, chances were Fred could fix it. If the shop doors were open and his truck parked outside, friends, neighbors, and community members knew they were always welcome, whether they came for mechanical advice, a helping hand, or simply good conversation. Fred was happiest with grease on his hands and being a wealth of knowledge to all that needed him. He invested in the Buffalo community not for recognition, but simply because he loved his hometown. Fred spent many years with the Buffalo volunteer fire department, running a mechanic shop downtown, developing and growing the Annual Buffalo Fireworks, turning it into the spectacular event it is today. In 2025, Fred and Jamie were honored to serve as Grand Marshals for the annual Buffalo Homecoming parade.
Throughout life’s joys and hardships, Fred’s faith in God remained his foundation. As he faced his greatest battles, Jamie stood faithfully beside him, encouraging his walk with the Lord. Together, they found strength in God ‘s grace, comfort in His presence, and hope in His promise of eternal life.
While his earthly journey has ended, and his absence leaves an immeasurable void, he will continue to live on through his family and friends who were blessed to know him. To know Fred was to know dependability. He was the person you called when something was broken, when a job needed done or when life simply became difficult. He never saw praise or recognition, simply showed up. His strength wasn’t measured by words, but by countless acts of kindness, unwavering integrity and willingness to help anyone who crosses his path.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents Harold Kuhn and Barbara Longstreth, stepmother Mary A. Kuhn, stepfather Richard Longstreth, siblings: Bobby Longstreth, Diane Barton, John Kuhn, Daughter: Kristy Kuhn-Ammons, Granddaughter: Maryia Baker, Nephew: Jason Hutson, Nieces: Marisa Lansdown, Linda Kuhn.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 10:00 am at the Good News Center in Chanute, KS. with burial to follow at the Buffalo cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026, from 5-7 pm at the funeral home in Chanute. Memorials in his memory have been suggested to the Mary Splechter (Sparky’s Flea Market C/O Hope Lodge Donation drive) in Chanute.
