Gary W. Glasgow's Obituary
Gary W. Glasgow, 63, of Fredonia passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Gary was born May 25, 1959 in Fredonia. Gary was the youngest son of Luther M. and Vada R. (Parker) Glasgow. Gary was born with a brittle bone disease, Osteogenesis Imperfecta, in which he experienced many broken bones throughout his life. Gary accepted life’s challenges head on and persevered with a positive attitude.
Gary graduated from Fredonia High School, class of 1977. He attended college at Coffeyville Community College and received an associate’s degree in drafting. Following graduation, he worked as a draftsman in Oswego. Gary took part in designing many metal buildings. Gary also contributed designs for parts and or systems used in the large haul trucks for the mining industry. Gary participated as a “Scout” with the Southeast Kansas Cavalry Volunteers who were active from 1987 to 1989.
Gary had a love of the outdoors. Many of his favorite times included hunting on the family farm, fishing, and even riding horses when he was younger. He enjoyed playing pool, playing cards, watching western movies, and watching football. He was a huge Kansas City Chiefs fan. Most of all Gary enjoyed the opportunities to visit with family and friends.
Later in life he was determined to keep his independence. When he could no longer get in his truck, you could see him around town in his Hoveround.
Survivors include: Brother, Willard Glasgow and wife June of Meade, KS; Sister, Margaret McGee and husband Vernon of Chanute, KS; Sister-in-law, Linda Glasgow of Fredonia, KS; numerous nieces & nephews.
Preceded in death by: Parents, Luther M. and Vada R. Glasgow; Brother, Robert M. "Bobby" Glasgow; Nephew, Vernon G. "Mac" McGee Jr.
Cremation has been requested with a Celebration of Life service to be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 10:30 AM at Countryside Funeral Home in Fredonia. Memorials have been suggested to the American Cancer Society and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
