Gary Millbern's Obituary
Gary Millbern of Toronto passed away 5:45 pm Friday, November 6, 2015 while a resident at Eureka Nurshing Home. Gary was born December 3, 1940 in Ottawa, KS to Gerald and Frances (Cooley) Millbern.
Gary met Donna Benedict in the early 90's in Freeport, Texas. They went together for 4 years before getting married at the First Presbyterian Church in Iola, KS March 30, 1996. They made their home in Iola until the flood, then moved to Toronto, KS in 2006.
They traveled thru Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Kansas , as Gary drove a Refer semi-truck most of his adult life. Gary was also a driver at Humboldt Speedway in the Derby Specials. Unfortunately his health deteriorated after a heart attack in 2009.
In 2010 Gary's health declined and he was admitted to the Yates Center nursing home for 2 years, then he was transferred to Diversa Care, Chanute and was a resident there another 3 years. He was then admitted into Eureka Nursing home prior to his passing.
He is survived by his wife Donna of their home, 3 sons Clark, Robert, and Glenn Millbern all of Ottawa, KS and one daughter Beverly of Ottawa, KS. Step father Floyd Schmoe, and 2 step brothers David Schmoe of Kansas and Ronnie Schmoe of Texas.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Roger Millbern.
Cremation has been requested, a memorial service will be held 1:00 PM at the Cowboy Church in Toronto, Saturday, November 14, 2015. Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.
