Gary Alan Mills' Obituary
Gary Alan Mills, 'The General', age 62, a resident of El Dorado, Kansas passed away Sunday, December 9, 2012, after a brave battle with cancer. Gary was born on July 24, 1950 in Winfield, Kansas the son of Calvin Leroy and Mary Lou (Perrigo) Mills.
Gary was a graduate of Moline High School in 1968 where he then received a basketball scholarship to attend Independence Community College. He served six years in the Army National Guard and united in marriage in 1971to Margaret Murphy having two children together. He retired in 2011 from United Parcel Service (UPS) after 34 years of service where he made lifelong friendships and touched the hearts of so many people.
Gary was survived by and was a loving father to his two children, daughter Sheila Mills of El Dorado, Kansas and son Casey Mills of Grandview, Missouri. A devoted "Papa" to his grandson Christopher of El Dorado, Kansas, his mother Mary Lou Mills of Moline, Kansas; brother Mike Mills and Mary Mericle of Moline, Kansas; brother Danny and Anita Mills of Towanda, Kansas; sister-in-law Wanda Mills of Moline, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Calvin Mills and brother Tom Mills, both of Moline, Kansas.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 14, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Countryside-Zimmerman Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Moline Cemetery. Family suggests contributions be made to the Cancer Center of Kansas-El Dorado and can be left with the funeral home.
