George Eugene Slaughter's Obituary
George Eugene Slaughter age 55 died Monday, December 23, 2013 at the Golden Living Center, Neodesha, KS. He had been in poor health for the past 3 years following several surgeries and was recently diagnosed with MS.
George was born May 27, 1958, in Ft Scott, KS the son of Elzie Eugene and Joy Madeline (Baker) Slaughter. He grew up in the LaCygne area and graduated from Prairie View High School.
George worked several jobs during his life including, butcher at IGA, Mound City, KS, KCPL at LaCygne, he owned and operated rodeo stock for many years. The past 15-20 years he worked as a Right-of-Way Agent and Landman for various companies.
George never knew a stranger and was well known throughout the Oklahoma-Kansas region for his work, as well as his participation as President of the Kansas High School Rodeo Association.
He served his community of Mound City well serving as elder of his church and school board member and President for many years. He moved to the Fredonia/Neodesha area where he attended the Buxton Christian Church.
George is survived by his wife Christina, daughter and son-in-law Lacy and Tom Nickleson, son Kyle Slaughter, stepson Chris Edwards and step daughter Tracy Hoesli and 9 grandchildren. Sisters; Marsha Wunderly, (Joe) and Cathy Widner; one brother David Slaughter and numerous nieces and nephews
George was preceded in death by his parents and brother in law Dan Widner.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 27, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at Countryside Funeral Home in Fredonia with Rev. Gene Benefiel officiating. Burial to follow at the Altoona Cemetery.
