Gladys Eileen Kepley-Henshall's Obituary
Gladys Eileen Kepley-Henshall, age 84, of Chanute, KS, passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center. Gladys was born to William Wilson and Beulah Jane (Braden) Trammell in Chanute, KS on November 10, 1933. She graduated from Chanute High School. Gladys married Robert Dean Kepley in 1954 and five children were born of this union before Robert preceded her in death on April 4, 1974.
Gladys was a loving mother and grandmother who knew everyone, but had no enemies. She sang beautifully in the church choir at a young age and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Chanute. Gladys and husband, Robert, owned a club restaurant for many years where she perfected her cooking skills. Her love of cooking led her to work at the Chanute Elks Lodge as cook and manager, then on to cooking for Alta and Stan’s Restaurant, Jesse’s, and Holiday Park in Chanute, and the Fireside Inn and Rock House in Thayer, KS. She continued cooking throughout her life and enjoyed cooking beans every month for the Shriners for several years. Gladys loved reading and watching every old western as often as she could. She especially loved animals and the squirrels in her yard were affectionately given names while dining at the feeders. Gladys will forever be missed in the hearts of friends and family.
