Gladys M. Porter's Obituary
Gladys M. Porter, age 96, a resident of Fredonia, Kansas passed away Monday, August 23, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Fredonia. She was born on April 23, 1914 in Warrensburg, Missouri to Albert and Minerva (Nunn) Morton the youngest of ten children.
Gladys was educated in the public schools of Warrensburg and was a graduate of Central Missouri University with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Business and Social Studies. She taught history and business a number of years in Missouri. In April 1939 Gladys was united in marriage to Ralph Alexander Porter in Warrensburg, Missouri. They celebrated 51 years of marriage before Ralph’s death in August 1990. She was associated with her husband in the Ralph Porter Motors in Fredonia for many years. Gladys was a member of the First Christian Church in Fredonia, Woman’s Mutual Benefit Club, Fredonia Country Club, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, life member of the Historical Society and a friend of the library.
Gladys is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ralph and 9 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at Countryside Funeral Home with Pastor Milo Steffen officiating. Visitation will be held from 3:30 to 7:30 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Johnstown Cemetery in Bates County, Missouri.
