Glenn "Wilbur" Allison's Obituary
Glenn “Wilbur” Allison, age 89, passed away October 27, 2014 at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, KS, surrounded by his family. Wilbur was born July 3, 1925 in Chanute, KS the son of Roy “Glenn” and Lorene (Burghart) Allison.
He graduated from Chanute High School and then attended college for one year. On May 12, 1946 he married, Lillian Marie Krone, and they were married 59 years.
Wilbur’s first and only job was with the railroad. He worked as an agent for the Santa Fe Railroad for over 40 years. He was very involved with the community, serving as a trustee for the college and as a member of Kiwanis, where he served a term as the Lt. Governor. His family received the Family of the Year award from Kiwanis in 1969. It was also through his efforts that the dialysis unit was established in Chanute. Wilbur was an avid golfer, and very proud of his “hole in one” at the Safari Golf Course. He loved to travel, dance, and he was an active member in the Zion Lutheran Church.
Wilbur is survived by his daughters; Nancy Tate and husband Mike of Topeka, KS, Janet Hesting and husband Richard of Owasso, OK, Lori Evans of Wichita, KS, brother; Robert Allison of Overland Park, KS, grandchildren; Laura and Andrew Tate, Allison Pittman, Toni Khan, and husband Ali, Charles and Abigail Hesting, Linda McGuire and husband Justin, Dawn Moreno and husband Richard, 14 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Glenn and Lorene, and his wife; Lillian.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 1, 2014, 10:00 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Chanute. There will be no visitation.
Family suggests memorials to Zion Lutheran Church which may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
