Harley Edward Marr's Obituary
Harley Edward Marr of Coyville, Kansas, age 87, died Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Fredonia Regional Hospital. Harley was born on June 12, 1923 in Coyville, Kansas, the son of Victor and Ethel (Gross) Marr.
Harley was a graduate of Coyville High School. After high school, Harley went into the U.S. Army. After serving in the military, Harley married Patricia S. Shields on July 18, 1949 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Harley and Pat were married for 61 years. Pat survives at their home.
During the time of building the Toronto Dam, Harley worked for a contractor. His main occupation was his taking care of his farm. As a true farmer, Harley never retired from his job. In his spare time, Harley enjoyed hunting, and was an avid gun collector. He was also known for collecting sun glasses.
Harley enjoyed the special daily visits when people showed up to his house for coffee. Harley’s best friend and “The Smartest Dog in the World-Gidgetâ€, was always by his side. Most of all, Harley enjoyed his family and grandchildren.

8 Grandchildren, 5 Great Grandchildren
Harley was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Earl and William Marr, one sister; Vesta Fitzmorris and granddaughter Latisha Marr.
Graveside services will be held Friday, May 13, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at the Coyville cemetery with the Rev. Gene Benefiel officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, May 12, 2011 from 5-7 P.M. at Countryside Funeral Home in Fredonia. Memorials have been suggested to either the Fredonia Regional Hospital Foundation or the Coyville Community Center and may be left with the funeral home.
