Harley Dean Nelson's Obituary
Harley Dean Nelson, age 92 of Chanute, KS, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 in Chanute, KS. He was born on February 13, 1927 in Chanute, KS, the son of Lorens and Ella (Orr) Nelson.
Harley served in the United States Army from 1954-1956 as a mechanic and was stationed in Germany. In 1962, he married June Nicklin in Chanute, KS, she preceded him in death. Harley worked in the oilfield business his entire career. He started out in the factory and then moved into sales. He worked for Chanute’s Churchill Pumping Unites from 1957-1982 and then was with CMU and Rotoflex. In 2014, Harley was selected and participated in the Honor Flight program for veterans and went to Washington DC. Harley was a member of American Legion, VFW, Elks, Eastern Kansas Oil and Gas Association. He was a volunteer for the American Legion Baseball and a proud supporter of the local high school and NCCC sport teams.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, June Nicklin Nelson; brother, Bill Nelson; sister, Betty (Nelson) Larsen.
Cremation has been requested. The family will have a memorial service on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the Snyder Chapel at Neosho County Community College in Chanute, KS. Memorials have been suggested to the NCCC Foundation and mailed to 800 W. 14th St. Chanute, KS 66720. Online condolences may be left at: www.countrysidefh.com.
