Helen "Joyce" Lord's Obituary
Helen “Joyce†Lord, age 83, a resident of Wichita, Kansas passed away Monday, December 20, 2010 at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita, Kansas. She was born on December 19, 1927 in Howard, Kansas the daughter of Otis and Hazel (Greenwood) Preston.
In 1947 she was united in marriage to Bobbie Gene Lord in Howard, Kansas and he preceded her in death on August 30, 2007. During their marriage Joyce and Bobbie enjoyed family gatherings that involved dinners, movies, sports, camping, traveling and attending the state fair. She also enjoyed gardening vegetables and flowers, crocheting, sewing, cooking and watching K.U. and Miami Heat basketball.
Joyce is survived by one daughter Joyce Ann Hoke of Wichita, Kansas, two sons Robert LeRoy Lord of Andover, Kansas and Michael Ray Lord and his wife Janet Leigh of Tazewell, Tennessee, four sisters: Norma Salisbury of Howard, Kansas, Ruth Preston of Newton, Kansas, Dorothy Walta of Bonner Springs, Kansas and Sue Wacker of Leavenworth, Kansas, two brothers Fred Preston of Howard, Kansas and Dennis Preston of Newton, Kansas, five grandchildren: Greg Lord of Knoxville, Tennessee, Robbie Hoke and Billy Hoke both of Wichita, Kansas, Michael Fraley and Danya Anderson both of Melvin, Kentucky, ten great grandchildren: Amie Lord and Ian Lord of Knoxville, Tennessee, Austin Hoke, Vanessa Hoke, Corissa Hoke and Audrey Hoke all of Wichita, Kansas, Brett Fraley, Matthew Fraley, Breanna Anderson and Olivia Anderson all of Melvin, Kentucky. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers Dean Preston and Orvan Preston.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Countryside-Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard with Pastor Robin Haines officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. until service time. Interment at Cresco Cemetery. Family suggests memorial contributions be made to American Heart Association and may be left with the funeral home. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.countrysidefh.com.
