Helen S. Appelhans' Obituary
Helen S. Appelhans, age 83, a resident of Fredonia, Kansas and formerly of Garden City, Kansas passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Fredonia. Helen was born on July 28, 1925 in St. Peter, Kansas the daughter of Wendelin and Mary (Boxler) Richmeier.
On July 16, 1946 Helen was united in marriage to Elmer Appelhans at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City. Helen worked for St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City for many years in housekeeping. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella. Helen loved working out in her yard and garden and watching baseball games.
Helen is survived by one son Larry Appelhans and his wife Sue of Fredonia, Kansas, one sister Mary Richmeier of Garden City, Kansas, five brothers; Elmer, Francis, Gary, and Marvin Richmeier all of Garden City, Kansas, and Robert Richmeier of Tulsa, Oklahoma, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elmer, one son Garold, and three brothers; Lawrence, Leo, and Art.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, January 31, 2009 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City. Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM Friday at the church. Interment will be at Valley View Cemetery. Family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Association and may be left with the funeral home.
