Herb Hartley's Obituary
Herb Hartley 80, of Osage City, Kansas passed away on June 12, 2015 at his home. Herb was born on November 28, 1934 in Lake City, Kansas to Wilber and Jessie (Sisk) Hartley.
Herb earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Administration from Kansas State University in May of 1956. On September 2, 1956 Herb was united in marriage to Nella Ruth Bryan in Howard, Kansas. The couple had 7 children.
Herb was an editor for the Doane Agricultural Service as well as an editor for many small town newspapers. He earned a Master’s Degree in Journalism and Mass Communications from Kansas State University in 1983. Until his retirement Herb was a security guard for the Kansas Department of Corrections.
Herb was a member of the Buhler United Methodist Church. He was also an avid golfer, an avid reader and loved spending his time attending his grandchildren’s activities.
Herb is survived by sons: Wes Hartley and fiancée Shari, Omaha, NE and Tom Hartley and wife Geri of Ozawkie, KS. Daughters: Jane Hartley, New Strawn, KS; Sarah Doubek and husband Doug of Topeka, KS; Allyson Christman and husband Todd of LeCompton, KS; Blanche Wulfekoetter and husband Mitch of Ozwakie, KS; and Maggi Martinie and husband Doug of Manhattan, KS. Sister: Gerry ReQua and husband John of Winfield, KS. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, as well as, several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife Nella on November 14, 2014.
Services will be held Saturday, June 20, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Howard United Methodist Church with Pastor Scott Hannon officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Cedar Vale City Cemetery in Cedar Vale, Kansas. Online condolences may be left at: www.countrysidefh.com.
