Herbert Franklin Turner's Obituary
Herbert Franklin Turner, age 87, passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at his home in Chanute. He was born on November 10, 1929 in Purdy, MO the son of Stanley Bailey and Zona Serena (Ash) Turner.
Herbert married Naomi Lee Davis on October 30, 1948 in Neosho, MO. They were married for 67 years before she preceded him in death on November 29, 2015.
Herbert worked for most of his life as a cement layer in construction. His work can be found all over the area including most of the area schools and the Army Ammunition Plant. He also worked for a time doing street maintenance for the City of Chanute. Herbert enjoyed spending time with his family, especially when he got to plan for family visits and reunions. He loved to travel and frequently took long car trips. He also enjoyed going out to eat breakfast whenever he got the chance. He was a devoted Christian and member of the Anchor Worship Center
He is survived by his children: Rita (Wesley) Dillow of Chanute, Rick (Darlene) Turner of Humboldt, Earl Turner of Mondovi, WI, Debra (Will) Chism of Chanute, Randy (Valena) Turner of Chanute, Connie (Donald) Chism of Huntingdon, TN, and Tim (Julia) Turner of Mondovi, WI; a brother: Chester Turner Hazelbaker; a sister: Ruby Garoute; 22 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Naomi, 6 siblings, and a grandson Dustin Turner.
A visitation will be held on Monday, December 19, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home, Johnson Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Moran Cemetery in Moran, KS Family requests memorials to Anchor Worship Center and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home at 101 N. Highland, Chanute, KS.
