Ione McClayland's Obituary
Ione McClayland age 96, of Fredonia, died Friday, February 2, 2018. Ione was born December 12, 1921 in Towanda, KS the daughter of Richard Madison and Della Mae (Stark) Jones.
Ione grew up in Wichita graduating from Wichita East High School, then on to WSU in 1943 and later earning a Master's from Emporia State. She taught music and English in small Kansas schools, Rosalia, Flint Hills, Severy, Fall River and Fredonia, for 37 years. Ione was a fifty year member of the O.E.S., a recent member of DAR, and a member of the Second Church of Christ, Scientist of Wichita, from the age of 12
On August 15, 1948 in Wichita, Ione married Clarence W. McClayland. Ione and Clarence were married for 63 years until his death on September 22, 2011. To this union they had 4 children: Dean McClayland, Marilyn Stevenson, Kevin McClayland and Brent McClayland. 5 Grandchildren: Shala Steele, Lacey Detweiler, Tyler McClayland, Kaylen Goodson Speth and Devin McClayland. 5 Great- grandchildren: Kayden McClayland, Carsten Speth, Harper Speth, Dillon Steele, Kinley Steele.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 8, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Countryside Funeral Home in Fredonia, with burial to follow at Twin Grove Cemetery in Severy. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 7, 2018 from 5-7 PM at the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at: www.countrysidefh.com.
