James F. Barnett's Obituary
James F. Barnett, 91, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2025, in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born on September 29, 1933, in Humboldt, Kansas, to Glen and Edna Barnett. James was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Glen Dean and Ronald Ray, his sister Ruth Morgan, and his beloved daughter Lori, who passed away in December 2023.
In June of 1952, James married the love of his life, Bonnie Jean Jackson. Together, they raised three children: Gene, Lori, and Robin. Their family grew to include seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to his life.
James dedicated 45 years of service to the Santa Fe Railroad in Chanute, Kansas, before retiring in 1996. After retirement, he and Bonnie moved to Branson West, where they spent 15 wonderful years on Table Rock Lake enjoying their dream retirement home. James was an avid fisherman and loved every moment spent on the water. Later, the couple moved to Kansas City to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren. A passionate Kansas City Chiefs fan, James rarely missed a game and always cheered his team on with pride.
James will be remembered for his love of family, his devotion to Bonnie, his warm spirit, and the many stories shared over fishing trips and football games. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him
A graveside service will be held at Chanute Memorial Cemetery on Friday, September 12th, at 2:00 p.m., followed by a reception for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in James' name to Saint Luke's Children Hospital. Arrangements have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home.
