I graduated with Jim and since learning of his death he has been on my mind. I remember once when I was at a West Elk Wrestling tournament I saw Reed's name and wondered if Jim made it to his wrestling matches. As I watched and photographed Reed wrestling, my eyes followed him after his match and that is when I saw Jim in the stands smiling as Reed was making his way to him. To me it warmed my heart to see him there for Reed. Nothing we say can take away the loss but just know your family is heavy on my heart as your family learns to live without Jim there.

"Slim" was a true Wildcat and Kansas State cowboy and will be truly missed by all of us that knew him! A true believer in the ways of the West and the cowboy tradition and ways. I remember a time I actually got to spend some time with Jim, Doc, and Reed. We were moving some cattle around and I had the pleasure to riding in the truck with Doc. Jim and Reed were out on the horses with the dogs getting the cattle to the gate that me and Doc were blocking until Jim and Reed had them all wrangled behind us. Doc told me to watch for a hand sign from Jim to move on ahead. I watched Jim from the truck and saw him fiddling with his phone he called Doc up and told us to move out. I was surprised cause I expected to see like I had seen in westerns all the time with John Wayne throwing his arm up and yelling "Moving'em Out!" But I gave him some stuff for not giving me the whole "cowboy" experience. To this day I remember seeing him on the horizon on the horse. The cowboy that he was. I will miss seeing him around Moline in his truck and just shooting the wind with him when I could. May he rest in piece and know he has some better land and some good rest where he is at now.
