James Keith Read's Obituary
James Keith Read, age 89, of Chanute, KS, passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Medical Lodge in Girard. James was born on January 11, 1928 in Chanute, KS, the son of James Thomas and Hazel (Zinn) Read.
James graduated from Buffalo High School in 1946. On March 24, 1961, James married Ruby Smith in Chanute, KS and celebrated 56 years of marriage this year.
James served in the United States Air Force from 1948 – 1952. He was stationed overseas in England as a mechanic. He was very proud of his service for his country. James worked for the United States Postal Service as a clerk for 30 years. James enjoyed colleting coins and stamps. He also loved to work in his yard and tinker is his workshop. James was a family man and enjoyed spending time with all of his grandchildren. James was a member of the American Legion and the First Christian Church in Chanute.

James was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Carl Hawkins and sister, Mildred Caudell.
A Visitation will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home Gibson Chapel at 16 N. Forest in Chanute. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Chanute, KS. Interment will follow at Buffalo Cemetery in Buffalo, KS. The Chanute Honor Guard will be in charge of military honors. Online condolences may be left at: www.countrysidefh.com. Memorials have been suggested to the American Cancer Society and Alzheimer’s Association and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
