James Robert "Jim" Reid's Obituary
James Robert Reid, age 92, of Chanute, KS, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at his home in Chanute, KS. Jim was born on December 10, 1924 in Chanute, KS, the son of Cecil and Lula (Winder) Reid.
On May 10, 1948 Jim married Betty Ruth Hansen at the First Christian Church in Chanute, KS. Betty survives him at their home.
He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII from 1943 to 1945. He was reactivated for duty in October of 1950 during the Korean War. After his service in the military he moved his family to Wichita, Ks and was employed as a data processor for Boeing Aircraft. He then returned to Chanute and worked at Chanute Auto Parts prior to opening Circle K Auto Parts in 1968. Jim continued to own and operate Circle K until his retirement in 1991. He was a lifetime member of the Chanute VFW and was a member of the VFW bowling team for years, and also was active in the organizing and display of the Chanute Avenue of Flags. He also served on the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center Board of Directors for four years, coached little league baseball, and was active with God’s Pantry food bank. Jim loved being outdoors and in his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing with this father. He also enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and as busy as he was, he made sure his family came first. Jim was a member of the First Christian Church in Chanute.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother Pat Reid, and 3 sisters: Novella Long, Helen Greve, and June Franklin.
A Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home, Johnson Chapel in Chanute, KS. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 24, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Chanute, KS. Interment at Memorial Park Cemetery will follow. Military Honors by the Chanute Honor Guard. Online condolences may be left at: www.countrysidefh.com. Memorials have been suggested to God’s Pantry food bank at the First Christian Church and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
