Jerry Dean Oneal's Obituary
Jerry Dean Oneal, 74, a lifelong resident of Fredonia, died January 31, 2015 at Caney Nursing Center in Caney, Kansas.He was born November 17, 1940, in Neodesha, Kansas, the son of Carl and Edna (Klassen) Oneal.
Jerry was a graduate of Fredonia High School in 1959. During his school years, he was active in FFA, football, basketball, and always ready to participate in a good prank. Jerry went on to attend Wichita Technical Institute upon graduation. While attending school and working at the Miller Theater, he met Susie Resser. They wed on January 26, 1962, at the Brethren Church in Fredonia.
Jerry worked for Lester Stryker on the ranch north of town for many years. After Lester Stryker’s death, Carl, Jerry, and Jim bought a portion of the ranch and began Oneal Family Farms. He then began working at the Fredonia Sale Barn when Harvey Maxwell originally owned it. He continued working there while owned by Olin Goins and finally Brad Haun. He retired to focus on work at the family farm. He served on the Rural Water District #11 for several years during this period.
Jerry’s survivors include his wife, Susie Oneal, two sons Ryan and Chad Oneal both of Fredonia; one daughter Sheri Moya of Fredonia; two brothers, Jack Oneal of Seattle, Washington, and Gary (Jim) Oneal of Fredonia; six grandchildren, Lindsey Oneal, Zachary Moya, Brenna Moya, Connor Oneal, Brayden Oneal, and Ashton Oneal.
He was preceded in death by his parents and Great Aunt, Emma Klassen, of Fredonia.
A visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, February 4, 2015 from 5-7 PM at Countryside Funeral Home in Fredonia. A private, family burial will follow on Thursday. A memorial has been established for the Wilson County 4H Livestock Sale at First National Bank in Fredonia. Contributions can be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
