Jimmy Otho Farmer's Obituary
Jimmy Otho Farmer, age 76, of Altoona, passed away Monday, May 9, 2016 in Altoona, Kansas. Jim was born on April 2, 1940 in the telephone office of Liberty, Kansas. He was the son of Otho “Hap” Monroe and Margaret Anita (Kriebel) Farmer.
On May 30, 1965 he was united in marriage to Marilyn Sue Nelson at the Vilas Lutheran Church in Wilson County, Kansas. She survives him at their home.
Jim graduated from high school in Tahlequah, OK and went on to earn his Master’s Degree from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. He taught shop and 6th grade for 27 years at both Altoona-Midway and Thayer schools. From 1966 to 1970, Jim served his country in the United States Air Force at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, IL, Altus Air Force Base in Altus, OK, and Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, TX.
Jim was a member, longtime Deacon and Sunday School teacher at the First Baptist Church in Chanute, KS. He was also a member of Gideons International and a 50 - year member of the Masonic Order of Benedict, KS. Jim and his wife, Marilyn, enjoyed traveling and visited 74 countries during his life. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and gardening.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Aaron Matthew Farmer.
A Memorial Service will be held at the First Baptist Church Good News Center in Chanute on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 10:30 AM. Visitation will be on Friday, May 13, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Chanute. Interment will be at the Vilas Bethel Cemetery, rural Chanute, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been suggested to the First Baptist Church or Gideons International and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
