Jo LaVon Haymaker's Obituary
Jo LaVon Haymaker, 91, of Chanute passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at KU Hospice Center in Kansas City. Jo was born on February 14, 1933, in Greeley, Kansas, the daughter of Ren and Edna Mae (Howell) Fox.
Jo grew up in Greeley and graduated from Greeley High School. After high school, Jo attended college with the aspiration of becoming a teacher. On November 18, 1956, Jo married Donald Dean Haymaker in Chanute. Don and Jo enjoyed 60 years of wedded bliss until Don’s passing on April 16, 2017.
Jo loved to play golf with Don, and she also had a green thumb for inside and outside flowers. Her faith was also incredibly important to Jo, and she was a very dedicated member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Chanute.
Jo will always be remembered as a very loving woman, who especially loved her family. Jo is greatly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Jo is survived by her daughter Donna Jo Willis (David) of Chanute, KS, her sister Gaylene McFarland of Rogers, AR, her grandson Justin Willis (Bridget), and her great-granddaughter Talia Willis.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents Ren and Edna, her husband Don, and her brother Rex Fox.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 2:00 pm at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Chanute with burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials have been suggested to the Seventh Day Adventist Church and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at: www.countrysidefh.com.
