Joe Black's Obituary
Ronald Joseph (Joe) Black 81, of Fredonia, passed away on February 9, 2025.
Joe was born on September 10, 1943, in Wichita, Kansas, to Chester Paul Black and Agnes (Sommerhauser) Black. On September 21, 1961, he married Lela (Henley) Black, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage. Together, they had two children: Cheri (Jerry) Poole of Island Park, ID, and Michael (Tammy) Black of Emporia, KS.
Joe is survived by his beloved grandchildren: Dillon Poole (Kelly) of New York City, Sean Poole (Leann) of Junction City, KS, Josh Poole of Big Sandy, MT, Cody Black of Aurora, CO, and Tanner (Nicole) Black of Lawrence, KS. He also leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Liam and Elliana Poole.
Other Survivors include: Sister, Evonne Duff of Delaware and brother Roger Black (Brenda) of Wichita and numerous nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Chester Paul Black.
Joe attended General Motors Mechanics Training School in Oklahoma City and worked for Brown Chevrolet and LaDow Spohn Printing before opening Black’s Repair and later B & B Motors with Lela. After retiring, he continued his passion for cars by buying vehicles for other dealers at various regional car auctions.
A lifelong hunter, outdoorsman, and avid golfer, Joe was a dedicated member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and the NRA. He was also a proud member of the First Christian Church.
Joe’s love for his family, the outdoors, and his work will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Cremation has been requested with family receiving friend on Friday, February 14, 2025, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorials have been suggested to either the Fredonia Flag Fund or the First Christian Church of Fredonia and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
