John Mansfield Grover's Obituary
John Mansfield “Johnny” Grover, age 93, a resident of Moline, Kansas passed away Friday, August 16, 2013 at the Howard Twilight Manor. He was born on July 19, 1920 in Far Rockaway, New York the son of George and Lily (Hancock) Grover.
During World War II, John served in the United States Army Air Forces from September 11, 1942 to February 16, 1946 earning the rank of Major. He received two Purple Hearts, one Bronze Star and the Air Medal for his service. On November 21, 1946 John was united in marriage to Evelyn Louise McCollim in Sedan, Kansas. He worked as an Electric Engineer in radio and television repair. John was a member of the Moline Christian Church, Boy Scouts of America receiving the Silver Beaver Award and the Jr. Jaycees becoming the first Man of the Year in Richardson, Texas.
John is survived by his wife of 66 years Evelyn Grover of Moline, Kansas, one daughter Sandra Earls of Stillwater, Oklahoma, three brothers; Daniel Grover, Richard Grover and Robert Grover and one sister Rita Hirst. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son James Grover and one brother George Grover Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 22, 2013 at the Moline Christian Church with Pastor Stan Rumbaugh officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Moline Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Moline Christian Church and may be left with the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.
