John Arch Jensen's Obituary
John A. Jensen, age 60, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 16th, 2014. He was living at home in Chanute, Kansas at the time of his death. John was born on December 21st, 1953 in Emporia, Kansas to John C. and Zella Mae Hibbs Jensen.
He grew up and attended school in Chanute, graduating from Chanute High School in 1971. John continued a family tradition of serving his country by enlisting in the Kansas National Guard in 1973. He later transferred to the Kansas Air National Guard in 1988, serving as a fire fighter until his honorable discharge as a Technical Sergeant in 2000. John was a Desert Storm veteran, and he also served with the United States Air Force in Qatar, Okinawa, Alaska, and in Kansas at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita. John spent many years working for the City of Chanute as a fire fighter and for a time served as a Reserve Police Officer. He hunted, fished and enjoyed reading as hobbies. John’s favorite reading topics were hunting, fishing, and military history.
He is survived by his mother; Zella Mae Jensen of Chanute, two sisters; Terri Kirby and husband Allen, Topeka, Michelle McIntyre and husband David of Chanute; a brother; Marvin and wife Linda of Minneola; four nephews,; Jason McIntyre of Chanute, Justin McIntyre of Lawrence, Shawn Kirby and wife Jenna in Hawaii, Amanda Winter and her Husband Josh and children Ashtyn and Kaden; and Megan and Ryan Jensen of Minneola. John was preceded in death by his father, John C. Jensen Jr.
Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon, September 21st, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home Gibson Chapel, 16 North Forest, in Chanute. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 22nd, at 10:00 a.m. at the Countryside Funeral Home Gibson Chapel. Interment will follow at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute.
Memorials in his name may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project and may be left with the funeral home.
