John Robert Leedy's Obituary
John Robert Leedy, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather departed from this
world on May 2, 2024 in the home. He was born on February 23, 1963 in Iola, Ks., to
Robert and Naomi Leedy.
John attended Chanute High School, class of 1981. He was united in marriage to
Tammy Lowe, united for over 30 years.
John lead a fulfilling career. He worked at a loading dock at EFD industrial park during
high school in eleventh grade to buy a car. He worked for Leedy Beamon oil since he
was knee high to a grasshopper, completed oil wells, fracking, cementing, completing oil
wells at age 12, he was a heavy equipment operator at age 12, for the family business.
Learned to weld, worked on bearings, and hydraulics. Set tank batteries, trenched
pipeline, drilled oil wells, and completed oil wells. Worked for Kelly Down Drilling,
Layman Oil, he was a Rough Neck on a double Derrick and triple Derrick oil rigs/ and a
driller. He worked maintenance for Vanderman Oil, Yates Center. Remodel/
Construction for Leedy Construction, with his Dad, Bob. He worked at Young’s Welding
as a welder’s helper in steel fabrication, within a year moved to night supervisor in the
trailer fabrication dept.
At age 26, his world was turned upside down. He was involved in a horrific, life
changing vehicle accident in the summer of 1989. He spent 6 months in the trauma
center at Wesley Medical Center. Learned to walk, talk and eat again. Conquered that
mountain.
He was a master fisherman from the State of Kansas. Outdoorsman, sportsman, and
enjoyed hunting. He was a volunteer Fireman for Neosho Falls, KS. An ADC Agent for
the State of Kansas, trap nuisance animals, fur bearers, and Animal Damage Control.
He was an adventurer, mountaineer. Traveled to Colorado, camping, four wheeling,
overlanding, hiking, whitewater rafting, and gold prospecting.
His favorite place on the planet was the Great Rocky mountains.
He did Native American artifact hunting since childhood. Started bow hunting since
age 10. Shot his first deer at age 10.
John was a strong individual, loved teaching everyone around him. He was a dog
trainer. His Yorkshire Terrier, Gracie, was the latest dog he trained and loved.
John will be deeply missed by surviving family members and friends. He was survived
by his loving wife, Tammy Lowe; Children: Jack (Bebsylyn) Leedy of Stuttgart,
Germany, Robert Leedy of Iola, Ks., Sharon Leedy of Excelsior Springs, MO.,
Grandchildren: Evie Leedy of Layton, UT., Nova Leedy of Stuttgart, Germany, Nissa
Fountain of Iola, Ks., Korbyn Fountain of Iola, Ks., Kinzley Fountain of Iola, Ks., Nate
Leedy of Eldorado, Ks., Zach Leedy of Eldorado, Ks., Bryson Leedy of Howard, Ks.,
and Blake Leedy of Kinkaid, KS, Mother: Naomi Leedy of Chanute, Ks., Sister: Anita
Leedy of Chanute, Ks., Brothers: Paul Leedy of Chanute, Ks., Mike (Angie) Leedy of
Chanute, Ks. He was proceeded in death by his Dad, Robert Leedy.
John’s warm presence will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of
knowing him.
May he rest in peace knowing that he was loved immensely during his time on Earth.
A Visitation for John will be held, on Wednesday, May 8, from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm at
Countryside Funeral Home, 101 N. Highland, Chanute, KS. A Time of Celebration will
be scheduled at a later date.
Memorials in honor of John are suggested to the American Kidney Fund and can be
left with or mailed to the funeral home.
Services are under the guidance of Countryside Funeral Home, 101 North Highland,
Chanute, Ks.
