John William Martin, 76, of Chanute, passed away Friday, May 16, at his home. John was born in Culver, Kansas, on January 24, 1938, the son of George Leo Martin and Bernitta Mae (Briggs) Martin. He graduated in 1956 from Minneapo Read Obituary
I have just learned of John Martin's passing. I apologize for the belated condolence. John was the principal at Royster Junior High School for the first year I taught in 1972-73. He was very helpful to me and was instrumental in preparing me for my 30-year teaching career. I am very thankful for that. I could not have asked for a better principal.

I will always remember Mr. Martin as a kind, compassionate teacher who challenged his students to be the best they could be. I respected him greatly and consider him to be one of the teachers who inspired and encouraged me most at RJH. Jane, I don't need to tell you what a great guy John was, because you already know all that, I was so shocked to see on my computer of his passing. Dale and I were so fond of the two of you. I loved Mr. Martin's class at Royster. I was there in the late '80s, and am now a high school teacher myself. He was one of my favorites at Royster. My prayers are with your family!
Tony has many fond memories from his Junior High days of Mr. Martin and we both thought highly of him when he taught our daughter, Amber, at Royster before we moved. I know he will be missed by many. The Martin family is in our thoughts and prayers.
