John Thomas "Stinker" Mitchell's Obituary
John Thomas “Stinker” Mitchell, age 78, went to heaven on March 8th, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
Tom was born on July 24, 1945 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. His family moved to Thayer, Kansas and then later to Chanute where he graduated high school in 1963. He attended both K.U. and Pittsburg State universities and was in the National Guard.
After college, Tom went to work for NuWa. He was an excellent quality control manager for 31 years. He was loved and respected by his co-workers, many of whom became life-long friends.
Tom met the love of his life, Rosie, in 1992. They hit it off immediately having the same interests of gardening, fishing, and hunting.
After Tom’s retirement from NuWa, at age 55, he and Rosie moved to the farm in Thayer. Tom’s love of fishing and hunting naturally led to another of his hobbies – taxidermy. He created numerous beautiful, life-like mountings.
Tom and Rosie were married in 2003. She has 2 boys that Tom loved as his own. They built their home in 2005 and started a new hobby together – going to auctions. Tom refinished many beautiful and unique pieces to furnish their new home.
Tom is survived by his beloved bride, Rosie, sons Michael Pearman (Debbie) of St. Louis, MO, Douglas Pearman (Holly) of Carriere, MS, grand-daughters Cienna Pearman of Carriere, MS, Hannah Skoda and Cody of Omaha, NE, great-granddaughters Kora Boswell of St. Louis, MO, Billy Rose and Florence May of Omaha, NE, brother Mike Mitchell (CeCe), sister Judy Steffen, and many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at First United Methodist Church in Chanute at 11:00 am. After the service there will be a luncheon and social time will be held at 23450 Brown Rd., Chanute, Kansas. Memorials have been suggested to Horizon Hospice or the charity of your choosing and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at: www.countrysidefh.com.
