The summer of 1997, I came home from college and worked as a file clerk at City Hall. John was one of the first people I “met” and got to know - and I adored him from day one. He loved to tease me and I loved to tease him right back. I could always tell when he was up to something by that twinkle in his eye. Man, he had a great twinkle! My last day at City Hall, he brought in a devil’s food cake to celebrate with us. It was SO good! But what made it even better was him telling me he’d considered making an angel food cake for me, but he decided I was just a little ornery - so the devil’s food cake was more fitting. We laughed so much that whole summer! Godspeed, Chief. Thanks for being such an incredible person.
