Joseph Vincent Heenan's Obituary
Joseph Vincent Heenan peacefully passed away on Nov. 25, 2014 at Diversicare of Chanute; he was 92 years old.
Joe was born in Scammon, KS on Oct. 4, 1922; the son of Thomas B. and Sarah C. (Davis) Heenan. After graduating from Columbus High School in 1940, he entered the United States Army. On Nov. 27, 1946, Joe was united in marriage to Mary Margaret (Hopper) at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pittsburg, KS; the couple was blessed with five children: Mary Jo, Daniel P., Colleen, Timothy D. and Eileen K. Shortly after his marriage and his military time Joe returned to school where he eventually earned his Master’s Degree in Education at Pittsburg State University. Joe taught school in Humboldt, KS and later worked for Monarch Cement, Co. in Human Resources until his retirement in 1989. He was a lifetime member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and also was involved in various organizations throughout the community.
Joseph Vincent Heenan was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary of 52 years on Oct. 1, 1999, also by his siblings: Tom Heenan, John Heenan, Patricia Heenan and Cathleen Walsh and one grandchild: Michael Barney. He is survived by his children: Mary Jo Heenan of Wichita, KS, Daniel P. Heenan of Boston MA, Colleen Heenan of Topeka, KS, Timothy D. Heenan and wife Carolyn of Chanute, KS, and Eileen K. Wiggins and husband Jeff of Denver, CO. Also by three grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph Heenan is planned for Monday, Dec. 1, 2014 at 10:00AM. The Rosary will take place the evening prior to the service, Sunday, Nov. 30, 2014 at 7:00PM, both at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Humboldt, KS. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery also in Humboldt. The family requests memorials be made to the Joseph V. and Mary M. Heenan Scholarship Fund at Neosho County Comm. College; which may be sent in care of Countryside Funeral Home 101 N. Highland St. Chanute, KS 66720. Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.
