Kathryn S. Frey's Obituary
With heavy hearts, her family announces the passing of Kathryn Susanne Frey, 67, who was released from her earthly life on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at the Morningstar of Neodesha. Kathryn was born on November 14, 1958, in Fredonia, KS., the daughter of Abraham (Abe) C. and Dorothy A. (Kuhn) Frey. She was their fourth daughter and was delivered by Dr. EA Rindt at the Rindt Clinic. She was a devoted daughter to her parents, with whom she remained close their entire lifetimes.
While Kathryn never married or had children, she was a loving aunt to her nieces and nephews and their families. She was a loyal friend, maintaining close friendships from her high school years and her places of work.
Kathryn attended elementary school at Lafontaine and Fredonia. She graduated from Fredonia High School in 1976 and then attended Coffeyville Community College. She worked for Kansas Bank Note Company until it closed. She then went to work for the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office until May of 2022, when declining health necessitated her retirement. This resulted in her selling her farmhouse and moving into Morningstar Home in Neodesha in December 2024.
During her life in the Fredonia community, Kathryn enjoyed artistic pursuits, including photography, drawing and painting. She was active in the Arts Council, Homecoming, and her class reunions. Kathryn was a faithful blood donor for the American Red Cross. Above all, she had a tender heart for cats and dogs and spent much time and resources to care for them.
Kathryn is survived by her sister Vicki (Jim) Gordon of Independence, KS; Janice Steele of Osage City, KS; and Shelley Cannon of Fredonia, KS. She will be lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews—Jeffrey Ward (Teresa Valentine of Fredonia; David (Anne) Gordon of Independence, KS; Matthew (Brandy) Gordon of Owasso, OK. Jill Cannon (Jason) of Fredonia and Meg Cannon of Edmond, OK. She also enjoyed 9 great nephews and 3 great nieces, 1 great-great niece and nephew whom she leaves on earth.
Kathryn is preceded in death by her parents, and a nephew-in-law Jason Parson.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorials in her memory have been suggested to either the Fredonia Pound Pals or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Countryside Funeral Home 420 S. 20th St., P.O.
