Kelly was my step brother. What a good person! Prayers for his family to find peace and comfort.
To The Family,
I was sorry to hear of Kelly's passing. We will not be able to attend the Celebration of Life. My husband just returned to work from vacation and will be working Saturday.
Kelly was my cousin by marriage. I was in the third grade when Phyllis & Kelly married.
We lived in the little white house with the big garden across from the oil lease. Kelly's Grandpa & Grandma Lamb were our neighbors. I didn't see Phyllis & Kelly once they moved to Chanute. They did come by the house when Johnny was born. I am sure they were at Gordon's funeral and Uncle Don's. All of the Stewart kids and most of the Anderson kids were a lot older.
All these years Mom & Dad and I, as a married adult, have decorated the baby's grave. Now it is just me & my husband left. I will decorate Kelly's grave next Memorial Day and in the future. It doesn't seem possible that he is gone. I always remember him smiling.
You are in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless you all.
Love,
Betty Hyatt Pierson

I grew up around Kelly and his family. His father was known to us as Russell Stewart. Kelly married my oldest sister Phyllis in Iola, KS in 1967. I knew Kelly as a beloved brother in law. They had three kids, a son Johnny Russell Stewart, daughter Kayla, and daughter Kaylee. Kelly and Phyllis later divorced. Kelly attended Elsmore schools in Elsmore, KS growing up until transfered to Moran when schools were consolidated in the 1960s. Kelly played sports in school. Kelly was an EMT and Firefighter in Chanute. He rose in rank until he became Fire Chief right before his retirement from the Chanute Firehouse.
Before that career, he worked at several different camper manufacturers in Chanute beginning in 1967. During all that time, he was also an avid farmer. Kelly has always been close to our family and treated us all with great respect. We all held Kelly in great reverence and respect returned. His loss has been a shock to us all. God bless Kelly Joe Stewart. Our condolences are extended to his family. His brother in law, Bobbie Ray Anderson
