Kelso Deer's Obituary
Isaac “Kelso†Deer, age 93, a resident of Fredonia, Kansas passed away Sunday, December 20, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Fredonia. He was born on January 2, 1916 in Farlington, Kansas, the son of William and Adah (Clayton) Deer.
Kelso worked for 43 years as a high school teacher, counselor and administrator in Hoisington and Augusta, Kansas. He also served four terms in the Kansas Legislature. Kelso was united in marriage to Wanda Lee Sypolt on March 13, 1960 in Hoisington, Kansas. From 1955 to 1959 he served in the Army Reserves earning the rank of Master Sergeant. He was a full citizen of the Muscogee Nation in Oklahoma.
Kelso is survived by his wife Wanda Lee of Fredonia, Kansas, two sons; Montie Deer and his wife Jan of Topeka, Kansas and David Deer and his wife Camille of Loch Lloyd, Missouri, one granddaughter Sarah Deer and husband Neal of St. Paul, Minnesota, three grandsons; William Deer of Wichita, Kansas, Matthew Deer of Montrose, Colorado and Brian Deer and wife Anjanette of Gardner, Kansas, three great grandchildren Isaac, Lauren and Jessica Deer all of Gardner, Kansas and one sister Dorothy Sell of Wichita, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters; Chalice Weyer, Florentine Ogden and Geneva Clayton.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial services will be held Saturday, December 26, 2009 at 11:30 am at Countryside Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Bell officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday from 10:30 am until service time. Inurnment will be at the Altoona Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Pittsburg State University Department of Education, Pittsburg, Kansas, 1701 S. Broadway, Pittsburg, KS 66762.
