Rev. Kerry Gage's Obituary
Rev. William Kerry Gage, age 80, of Humboldt, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2016 in Chanute, Kansas. Rev. Kerry was born on January 19, 1936 in Alanthus Grove, MO to William H. and Alice Arvilla (Pippitt) Gage.
On February 11, 1956 Kerry married Julia C. Stockstill in Branson, MO and they had 4 children together during their 60 year marriage. Julia survives him at their home.
Rev. Kerry started his 33 year career in the ministry in 1964. He earned his Doctorate in Theology from Kansas City. He served in many churches including the Humboldt First Baptist Church, from which he retired in 1997. Even after retirement; however, he still remained active. He served as deacon at the First Baptist Church in Chanute in 2000 and served for many years and in many churches in the interim pastorate position after his retirement.
When he wasn’t working in the ministry he loved to paint landscapes and make small items out of wood. He had the ability to look at a scrap piece of wood and see what he could make it into. He especially liked making toys for his grandchildren and great grandchildren including wooden puzzles. He was also good with plants and could often rescue a plant everyone else had given up on. He loved jokes and stores, his N scale model trains and rooting for the Royals and the Chiefs.
