Lambert "Allen" Burdett's Obituary
On January 27, 2015, Heaven gained another angel. Lambert “Allen” (Pappy) Burdett was born on August 11, 1933 to Silas and Mamie (Lambert) Burdett. Allen was the 4th out of 5 children. His siblings in order of birth: Alfred, Alma (Sis), Sam, Allen and Mary Alice. Allen attended school in Grenola, graduating in 1952.
Throughout Allen’s life, he worked many ranches in Kansas and Colorado, including MKO. Allen was a truck driver, but mainly was a welder/pipefitter and later became an inspector. Allen worked in most of the 50 states, along with Brazil and Iran.
Allen married Donna Kennedy Jones at Grenola Christian Church on November 6, 1959. On that day, Allen became Dawn’s dad. On November 8, 1960, Allen, Donna and Dawn added Rex to their family. In the summer of 1969 Allen adopted Dawn to make the family one.
To honor Allen’s memory, he is survived by his loving wife Donna of the home;
Children; Dawn and her fiancé Michael Jordan of Moline, KS; Rex Burdett of Great Bend, KS;
Grandchildren; Larry Hull and significant other Tabby Newbit of Tennessee, James Vogele of Mt. Hope, TX, Joshua and Brandi Vogele of Harper, KS, David Leonard Jr and Racheal of Winfield, KS, step grand-daughter Cheyenne Jordan of Owasso, OK.
Sister and brother in law Ron and Mary Alice Allison of Grenola, KS, “adopted” sister and brother in law, Don and Sue Roe of Grenola, KS, brother in laws: Gene (Lou) Kennedy of Sedan, KS, Andrew Kennedy of Oklahoma City, OK and Gary (Barbarbra) Kennedy of Oklahoma City, OK;
9 great grand-children, a host of nieces , nephews and cousins.
As well as, a large host of friends including, Carolyn Carson of Phoenix, AZ, Lonnie English of Minnesota, Joanne Ecton of Wichita, KS, Troy Dicke of Minnesota, Brian Stephens of Newkirk, OK and his hospice caregivers Heather and Dana.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Alfred and Sam, sister; Alma, sister in laws; Fern and Maxine Burdett, brother in law; Cleo Bainter and a host of friends.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 30, 2015 at Countryside Funeral Home in Howard, KS at 10:30 a.m. with cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gentiva Hospice, 917 Main, Winfield, KS 67156 or may be left with or mailed to Countryside Funeral Home in Howard.
