Larry Wayne Johnson's Obituary
Larry Wayne Johnson, age 71, of Chanute, KS passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2016 in Chanute, KS. Larry was born on January 28, 1945 in Buckeye, Arizona the son of Fred and Hazel (Ingle) Johnson.
On December 6, 1989, Larry married Lois Powers in Humboldt, KS. She survives him at their home.
Larry joined the United States Army National Guard in 1963 before being transferred to the Kansas National guard in 1964. He worked as a truck driver for ILC and later as a funeral director for the Gibson Chapel in Chanute, KS. He was a handyman who enjoyed installing garage doors but also did carpentry work, plumbing and basically anything to do with construction except electrical work. He even worked construction for Harley Record for a time. Larry was a KU fan and an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. He was a member of the Lyons club and the Rotary club in Chanute. He was also a World War II buff and enjoyed reading and talking about the war. Larry was a member of the Colfax Baptist Church for many years until it closed.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Janae Johnson; and brother Duane Johnson.
Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held on Monday, April 11, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home, Gibson Chapel. The family will hold a memorial service Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Chanute. Inurnment will be at the Colfax Cemetery and will take place at a later date. The family requests memorials to the Legion Riders or the Otterbein United Methodist Church.
