Larry Wayne Light's Obituary
Larry Wayne Light, age 72 of El Dorado, Kansas, passed away Monday, March 13, 2023, at his home.
Larry was born August 3, 1950, in Winfield, KS, to Joseph and Bertha (Peninger) Light. He grew up alongside two sisters in Howard, KS, attending and graduating from Howard High School in the class of 1968. He then went on to attend Butler County Community College. On August 24, 1969, Larry married Crystal Downing. Together, they raised their two sons Terry and Patrick and had spent nearly 54 wonderful years together.
Larry wore many hats throughout his life. From law enforcement, to fireman, to working in the oil business, and spending 10 years serving his country in the El Dorado unit of the Kansas Army Reserves. He was active in the Boy Scouts while his sons were growing up, and loved taking them camping, traveling all over the country as a family. In his spare time, Larry enjoyed playing golf, working with wood in his shop making things, or collecting anything eagles, Budweiser, Texaco, or anything oil related.
Larry was a very active Mason and Shriner, and was a dual member between Howard and El Dorado. He was a member of the Shriners Antique Auto, the Bluestem Antique and Vintage Auto Club, and was very involved with doing things for the kids through the Shriners. He loved to take his grandkids to the donut shop in the mornings, and sometimes the donuts would magically already be there when they woke up.
He was a devoted husband, loving father, and doting grandpa. He will be dearly missed by all his family and all those that knew him.
Larry was preceded in death by Joseph and Bertha Light of Howard, KS and his brother-in-law Jim Smith of Eureka, KS.
He is survived by his wife, Crystal; two sons, Terry (Barbara) Light of Hawthorne, CA, and Patrick (Julie) Light of El Dorado, KS; four grandchildren, Daniela, Michael, Alia and Emjay; two sisters, Barbara Smith of Eureka, KS and Marilyn (Tom) Long of Independence, KS; many nieces, nephews, friends and other loved ones.
