Larry Dean Woods' Obituary
Larry Dean Woods, age 71, passed away at Via Christi, St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, KS on Dec. 15, 2014.
Larry was born on March 15, 1943 in St. Paul, KS; the son of R.A. and Daisey (Holding) Woods. He was raised in St. Paul and attended school there and in Stark, KS. Shortly after high school Larry enlisted in the United States Army in 1961, serving until 1964. He then met and married Helen (Bockman) in Enumclaw, WA on Oct. 30, 1965. The couple was blessed with three children: Melinda, Keri, and Jason.
After Larry’s active time in the service, he remained in the US Army until his official retirement in 1999. He also worked in the Tire Dept. of the local Wal-Mart until the same year. He was also a member of the American Legion in Chanute.
Larry Dean Woods was preceded in death by his father, brother Kenny Woods and sister Sharon Legitt. He is survived by his wife Helen of nearly 50 years of the home in Chanute, KS; his children: Melinda, Keri and Jason Woods all of Chanute, KS. His sisters: Jackie Booe and husband David, Joyce Haynes and husband William, and Alice Kerns, all of Chanute; and Virginia Woods of California. Larry is also survived by six grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Graveside services for Larry are planned for Friday, Dec. 19, 2014 at 11:00AM at Fort Scott National Cemetery in Fort Scott, KS. The family will meet with friends the evening prior to the service, Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014 from 6:00-7:00PM at Countryside Funeral Home, Johnson Chapel. The family suggests memorials be made to the Seventh Day Adventist and may be sent in care of Countryside Funeral Home 101 N. Highland Chanute, KS 66720.
