Laurel Ernest Yarnell's Obituary
Laurel Ernest Yarnell passed away on Feb. 21, 2015 at Diversicare of Chanute, KS, he was 96 years old.
Laurel was born on March 30, 1918 in Osborne, KS; the son of Elmer and Hazel Clara (Sellers) Yarnell. In March of 1942, Laurel enlisted in the United States Army where he served until Nov. 1945. After his time in the service Laurel married Ruth (Olson) on Dec. 24, 1945 in Chanute, KS. Shortly after the couple began their family and were blessed with four children: Stephen, Raymond, Ted and Kathy. The family made their home in Buffalo, KS and shared nearly 56 years of marriage before Ruth preceded Laurel in death on Nov. 5, 2001. Laurel was a member of the High Prairie Methodist Church, the local American Legion and VFW.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruth, son Stephen Yarnell on June 3, 2010; and sisters Bessie Pharris, Wilma Thompson, and Bertha Irwin. He is survived by his children: Ted Yarnell; Raymond Yarnell and wife Marva, daughter-in-law Sandra Yarnell, all of Buffalo, KS and Kathy Stewart and husband Kelly of Chanute, KS. Laurel is also survived by nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Laurel Ernest Yarnell are planned for Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2015 at 10:00AM at High Prairie Methodist Church in Altoona, KS. The family will meet with friends the evening prior to the service Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015 from 6:-30-7:30pm at Countryside Funeral Home- Gibson Chapel- 16 N. Forest in Chanute, KS; burial with military honors will follow in Buffalo Cemetery, Buffalo, KS. Memorials are suggested to High Prairie Methodist Church and may be sent in care of Countryside Funeral Home 101 N. Highland Chanute, KS 66720.
