Lavaunna Delores (Hibbs) Hummer's Obituary
Lavaunna Delores (Hibbs) Hummer, age 86, passed away on January 21, 2015 at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute, KS. Lavaunna was born on August 21, 1928 in Milan, KS; the daughter of Raymond Earl and Josiephine Alice (Williams) Hibbs.
Lavaunna married Glenn Hummer on May 28, 1952 in Huntsville, Arkansas and they were later blessed with two children: Fred and Lori. Lavaunna worked at First National Bank in Chanute for 30 years and then went on to work at JCPenney in Chanute for more than 20 years. She enjoyed doing needle work and cross stitching and spending time with her grandkids. Lavaunna will be greatly missed.
Lavaunna was preceded in death by her husband Glenn, her parents, a brother: Wiley Hibbs, and four sisters: Fern Dalton, Opal Nylander, Geneva Lour and Dorothy Fogleman.
She is survived by her two kids: Fred Hummer and wife Selene of Chanute, KS and Lori Alonzo and husband Marc of Chanute, KS, 2 brothers: Raymond “Doc” Hibbs of Topeka, KS and Dean Hibbs of Chanute, KS, 3 sisters: Margaret Vanek of Endicott, NY, Betty Jennings of Tulsa, OK and Evelyn Phillips of Chanute, KS, 5 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Lavaunna will be Monday, Jan. 26, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Countryside Funeral Home Johnson Chapel on 101 N. Highland in Chanute. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute. The family will meet with friends the afternoon prior to the service, Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015 from 3-5 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home - Johnson Chapel. The family requests memorials be made to the Castaways Animal Shelter or Cherry Street Youth Center and sent in care of Countryside Funeral Home, 101 N. Highland, Chanute, KS 66720.
