Lillian Lucene "Bugs" Dennis' Obituary
Lillian Lucene (Bugs) Dennis, age 92, of Altoona, KS went home to be with the Lord Saturday, July 23, 2016 at NMRMC in Chanute, KS. Lucene was born January 1, 1924 at home in Oakley, KS the daughter of John Earl "Jack" and Lillian LaVerna (Price) Vawter.
She grew up on a farm 4 miles North of Oakley. She had 2 older sisters & 1 younger brother. In 1942 she married Roy Edward O'Neal and 2 daughters were born to this union. They later divorced. On May 20, 1961 she married Robert Francis Dennis and they made their home in Aurora, Colorado. He preceded her in death.
She was very active in the Presbyterian Church in Aurora. In 1999 she moved in with her daughter Pat & they lived together a little over 17 years until her passing. Lucene was a member of the Church of Christ in Fredonia, and was a strong Christian. She was a homemaker, but she delivered the Independence Reporter in Altoona for about 6 years, until it just got to be to much for her. She loved to play golf; she loved sports and delighted in teasing her grandson-in-law about the Kansas City Chiefs, as she was an avid Denver Bronco's fan. She was an upbeat, happy person who loved people and was known to be a little ornery.
Lucene is survived by her daughters; Patricia Bonner of Altoona, KS and Sheila Rothe of Billings, MT, 6 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Cremation has been requested and a Memorial Services will be held August 12, 2016, 10:00 AM at the Church of Christ in Fredonia, KS. Family suggests memorials to the Altoona Fire Fighters Auxiliary and may be left with the funeral home.
