Lillie Ruth Thornton's Obituary
Lillie Ruth Thornton, age 83, a resident of Golden Keys Nursing Home in Neodesha passed away Monday, October 8, 2007. Lillie was born on June 29, 1924 in Phoenix, Arizona the daughter of George and Nellie Baker Thornton. She was baptized as Antoinette Monica Thornton.
After completing high school Lillie served her country in the United States Women’s Army Corps (WAC) during World War II. She was proud that she worked in an all women ran hospital. She would continue to work as a registered nurse for some time after the war.
She lived in Honolulu, Hawaii for more than 50 years and worked under Senator Daniel Inouye. Lillie was also an advocate for the Disabled Veterans, a life member of the Disabled Veterans Chapter #3 in Honolulu and a life member of the Democratic Party of Hawaii.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son Gerald Koch, one brother Carl, and three sisters; Rosie, Ester, and Helen. She is survived by one daughter Mary Margaret Duncan of Garberville, California, three grandchildren; Gerald William Koch, Calvin Neir Krug, and Christopher Travis Krug, four great grandchildren and her caring friends at Golden Keys Nursing Home in Neodesha.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 1 PM Thursday, October 11, 2007 at the Neodesha Cemetery with Pastor Dave Cheshier officiating.
