Lola Ruth McCoy's Obituary
Lola Ruth McCoy, 91, of Chanute, KS, went to be with the Lord November 4, 2015 at Diversicare in Chanute, Kansas after several months of declining health. Lola was born on September 22, 1924 in Chanute, Kansas, the daughter of Harry and Ruth Erwin.
Lola graduated from Chanute High School in 1942 and worked for a time in Kansas City. On July 10, 1943 Lola married Neal McCoy in Pensacola, Florida where Neal was stationed in service to the U.S. Navy. After World War II they moved back to Chanute, Kansas and had four children together. They were later divorced.
Lola worked for the city of Chanute for several years and during that time attended Neosho County Community Junior College before moving to Arizona in 1973. There she worked for the Scottsdale, Arizona school system for 15 years before retiring as the bookstore manager at Chaparral High School in Scottsdale. Lola returned to Chanute in 2004. She was a member of the Ambassador Christian Church in Chanute, Kansas.
Lola was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter Marion, and her sister Carolyn Patnode.
She is survived by her daughter Martha McCoy-Cornish (Jim) of Chanute; sons David McCoy (Nancy) of Chanute and Ben McCoy (Jan) of Denver, Colorado; 8 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for Lola will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at Ambassador Christian Church in Chanute. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 from 6-8 P.M. at Countryside Funeral Home Gibson Chapel in Chanute. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute.
Family requests memorials to Ambassador Christian Church and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home at 101 N. Highland, Chanute, Kansas
