Lorraine Barr's Obituary
Lorraine Awalt Barr was born July 13th, 1924 in Braman, Oklahoma to Fred and Lola Awalt. Her family moved to the ranch in rural Yates Center when she was 11 years of age. She attended and graduated High School in Yates Center, Kansas. Lorraine had two sisters, LuCeil Wright and Pauline Guzzardo, they both preceded her in death.
She married Lawrence Barr on July 26th of 1942at her folk’s home in front of the big picture window. The couple had 4 children, Carolyn, Judy, Jim, and John. She was blessed with 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Lorraine was an active member of the Maple Grove United Methodist Church and Women’s group and she taught a youth Sunday School Class there for close to 40 years. When Maple Grove closed, she and Lawrence joined the United Methodist Church in Humboldt. Lorraine was an avid vegetable and flower gardener; she enjoyed ceramics and for many years she loved to crochet and read.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Humboldt United Methodist Church, with service to follow at 2:00 pm. Burial will immediately follow the service at Mount Hope Cemetery in Humboldt. Memorials have been suggested to the Humboldt United Methodist Church and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at: www.countrysidefh.com.
