Louise Mary Cookson's Obituary
Louise Mary Cookson, age 87, of Howard, Ks passed away November 5, 2015 at the Eureka Nursing Center in Eureka, KS. Louise was born February 18, 1928 in Howard, KS the daughter of Charles and Opal (Munson) McLean.
After graduating from Howard High School, she married Eugene Cookson on March 27, 1948. In 1954, Louise and Gene moved from Wichita, where she had worked at Beech Aircraft, to Howard and founded Cookson's Electric. After their store building burned in 1970, they bought the Western Auto business and moved to the former Smith and Goodwin Building in Howard, In 1975 they became a True Value store and their son, Mark, continues to operate the business today. Louise retired from Cookson's True Value in 1993.
Louise was a member on the Chamber of Commerce, American Legion Women's Auxiliary, Rotary and the Square Dance Federation.
Louise is survived by her children, Mark Cookson of Howard, KS, Robert Cookson and wife Christena of Howard, KS, Linda Craig and husband Robert of Howard, KS, sister Marie MaGee and husband Charlie of Independence, KS, brother, Richard McLean and wife Juanita of Howard, KS, 5 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Opal, husband, Eugene, infant daughter Sharon, twin sister, Lucille Parker, and brother, Chuck McLean.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, November 10, 2015, 2:00 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home in Howard, KS. Interment will be at Grace Lawn Cemetery. Family suggests memorials to the Howard Friendship Meals and may be mailed to P.O. Box 1233, Howard, KS 67349.
