Louise Marie Harrod's Obituary
Louise Marie Criger Harrod died March 17, 2010 at the Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, Kansas. She was 94 years of age. Louise was born on July 19, 1915 on the family farm 6 miles northwest of Howard, Kansas to Albert Louis and Ella May (Russell) Criger. Following the death of her mother in 1922, she lived with her Aunt Maude and Uncle Ned Smith until her father remarried. She attended school at Lower Paw Paw Rural School and graduated from Howard High School in 1933.
On January 26, 1936, she married Willis Dale Harrod at her parent’s home northwest of town. To this union were born two children, Susan Dale and Hal Albert. Dale and Louise first made their home in Wichita where they owned and operated three Criterion Grills from 1936 – 1945. In April of 1945 they purchased a farm northwest of Howard where they made their home until 1972 when they retired and moved to town.
Louise was a kind and loving person. She always put her family first. She was a member of the Howard United Methodist Church and Chapter R PEO Sisterhood.
She is survived by a daughter Susan Morgan and her husband Carl; son Hal Harrod and his wife Pat all of Howard; brother Jim Criger and his wife Lucy of Howard; grandchildren: Tracy Harrod, Carla Hilton and Kerry Harrod all of Howard; Darla JuAire of Halstead, Kansas; Marla Winn of Rose Hill, Kansas, Kelly McClure and Bryan Harrod both of Augusta, Kansas, 14 great grandchildren, and 1 step great great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband Dale, her parents, her stepmother Mildred Criger and one brother Carl Criger.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, March 19, 2010 at Zimmerman Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Cryderman of the Howard United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 6 to 8PM at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Grace Lawn Cemetery. Family suggests memorial contributions to Howard Senior Center and may be left with the funeral home. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.countrysidefh.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard, Kansas.
