Loy Dee Reinhardt's Obituary
Loy D. Reinhardt, age 86, passed away in Chanute, KS on January 24, 2024. Loy was
born in Chanute on December 28, 1937 to Ralph and Lotos (Cunningham) Reinhardt of
Erie, KS. He grew up on the Reinhardt Dairy Farm east of Chanute and graduated from
Chanute High School in the class of 1955. Following high school, he attended Kansas
State University, was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, graduating with a BS
degree in Agriculture in 1959.
Loy married Janis Ramsey on June 7, 1959 in Winfield, KS and recently celebrated 64
years of marriage. The couple spent the first four years of their married life in
Columbus, KS where Loy was Cherokee County Extension 4-H agent. In 1963 they
made their home at rural Erie, where they owned and operated the Reinhardt Dairy
Farm in partnership with his parents, Ralph and Lotos, with brother Richard and Linda
joining the farm in 1967. In 1986 Loy became a career agent for Farm Bureau
Insurance retiring in 2006.
Loy has been an active member of the Big Creek United Methodist Church of rural
Chanute and in recent years they enjoyed attending services at Otterbein Community
Church. He held leadership roles with Kansas Farm Bureau and Mid-America
Dairymen. He was a lifelong 4-H member, leader and supporter. He enjoyed mentoring
4-H youth serving as judge for 4-H day competitions as well as area county fairs. Loy
was a member of the Chanute FFA Chapter and served as a State FFA Officer.
Loy is survived by his wife, Janis Reinhardt, Chanute, one son, Mark (Linda) Reinhardt,
Kansas City, Mo, daughters, Debbie Cox, Chanute and Sherry (John) Hultgren,
Enterprise, KS. Eight grandchildren: Emily Reinhardt (Andrew Marshall), Elizabeth
Reinhardt, Ashley (Nick) Bowman, Jason (Natalie) Cox, Jenell (Garrett) Mulsow, Tylor
(Samantha) Hultgren, Chance (Reagan) Hultgren, and Justin Hultgren. Ten great-grandchildren: Nelson Stipp, Lacey Cox, Kalvin Cox, Dalton Bowman, Wyatt Bowman, Myer Mulsow, Flynn Mulsow, Grayson Hultgren, Savvy Hultgren, and Zoey Hultgren. Brother Richard (Linda) Reinhardt, Sister-in-law, Lois Ann Somer. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Loy was preceded in death by his
parents, son-in-law, Alan Cox, brother-in-law Dwight Ramsey, brother-in-law Gene
Somer.
The family will receive friends and family on Sunday, January 28, 2024 from 5-7 PM at
Otterbein Community Church in Chanute, KS. Celebration of life service will be held
Monday, January 29, 2024 at 2:30 PM at Otterbein Community Church in Chanute, KS.
Memorials in his name may be made to Big Creek United Methodist Church, Neosho
County 4-H Development Fund, Otterbein Community Church, or Harry Hines Hospice
and may be sent in care of Countryside Funeral Home, 101 N Highland, Chanute, KS,
